Single Mom On Mother’s Day
Last Updated on May 7, 2024 by Kathy
Mother’s Day is the most special day for a single mom, but it’s also the most dreaded day. It’s the day that all mothers are given the special recognition they deserve. A day when they don’t have to deal with teenage behavior, tantrums, or being on the family’s human agenda.
The day is portrayed as a magical 24-hours filled with unicorns that lick rainbow-colored popsicles while they dance around you and bow down to you like a Queen.
However, you have a unique reality as a single mother. Let’s just say that you are grateful for your child, and for your motherhood. But most societies don’t view you as an example mother because I raised your child alone. There’s a lot of assumptions and stereotypes thrown at you throughout the year. Perhaps, if we all can see how vastly different our experiences are and the deep meaning in them all, we can stop trying to mold our own experiences into a culturally accepted template of Mother’s Day.
However, please don’t refrain from trying to enjoy yourself on the day that’s supposed to celebrate you. So, here’s ways to embrace mother’s day as a Single Mother:
Four Ways To Embrace Mother’s Day As A Single Mum
1. Buy Your Own Gifts
Instead of telling yourself that you won’t get presents, go shopping and buy something nice. You can choose what you want! It’s pretty impressive. You shouldn’t pretend to love something you don’t care about.
2. Organize Something Together With Single Mom Friends.
If you don’t already have single mom friends, make them! It may seem awkward at first, and you might have to get out of your comfort zone but it is so worthwhile. You can celebrate the day by getting involved with other mums in similar situations to you.
3. Veggies On The Couch, Eat Pizza, Get Wine. Do Whatever You Like.
If you don’t have any plans to go out with your single mom friends to celebrate Mother’s Day. You can do whatever you like, there is no one there to judge or make comments. Take a breather this mother’s day and let loose a little. You can take the day off from adulting. Enjoy a relaxing bath or a pamper session to end the day.
4. Change Your Mother’s Day Attitude
You may be disappointed if you view Mother’s Day solely as a day of giving and receiving gifts. Keep in mind what Mother’s Day really is all about. It’s not about receiving affirmations and gifts from others about being a great mom. It’s about honoring and celebrating motherhood. For us, it’s about acknowledging all we do and celebrating ourselves. For many, it’s like being two parents in one. You are a rock star! Take a look at your beautiful children and remember that you are the reason they are so amazing little people. You are amazing.
