Parental stress is a natural part of being a parent. It is natural to worry about those we love. Mom with anxiety worries more about their children, as we are responsible for their education and care. It is essential to learn how to manage anxiety in order to be a good parent.
Mothers who can’t manage stress well will have a negative impact on their energy and ability to function normally. Mother anxiety can affect not only our children but also us. Children can’t live with an anxious parent.
Below are some tips to for mom to control anxiety when you feel like you can’t handle it anymore.
Grow Awareness About Mom with Anxiety
Being aware that we are experiencing anxiety is the first step to dealing with stress. Anxiety can manifest as headaches, stomach pains, fatigue, shortness or breath, insomnia, and other sleep problems.
These symptoms could indicate that your brain is constantly trying to imagine the worst. If your mind starts racing, it is anxiety. Slowly bring your attention to the present. Although we may think that we don’t like being stressed, once we become used to it, it becomes part of our daily thinking.
You can change it by adopting a new way of thinking. Breaking the cycle of negative thoughts and bringing your attention to the present (mindfulness) is a habit. Keep in mind that what we have is just this moment, and that we can’t predict the future.
Instead of fearing the unknown, embrace it. Recognize that the future will bring you both bad and good things.
Educate Yourself About Facts
Parents are more concerned than ever about their children’s safety in the age of social media. Why? It is the speed with which news spreads, and the advancement in technology that allows us to see what’s going on in every corner of the globe.
Fear is a result. We are able to see the worst possible outcomes for our children if we allow them to go. It is possible for anything to happen at any moment. While we can reduce the risk, misfortunes cannot be prevented 100% of the time.
Mom with anxiety should research statistics and facts before we restrict children from doing certain things. Research can help us determine the potential dangers for children of all ages. Then we can plan on how to reduce the risk. It can also be used to educate children and show them what to do in the event of danger.
Mom with Anxiety Has to Learn To Let Go
It is so liberating to learn to let go of all the burdens. It is the antidote for wanting to control everything. People who are anxious want to control the outcome because they fear the worst. When their brains are in overdrive, they can make a mountain from a molehill.
It is so liberating to be able to see what you can and cannot control. It can be difficult to let go of the clutches you have become accustomed to. You can learn to think differently slowly. Think about it. You can educate your child about the benefits of eating vegetables and show them different types.
You can’t force them to eat it. While it might work at first, kids will soon find that it is not healthy for their egos. This is how you learn to distinguish between what you have control over and what you don’t. It can be difficult for kids to do the right thing. However, trying to control them can have far more side effects in future.
Another thing you need to let go is perfection. Anxiety disorders and perfectionism in mom go hand in hand. Children can become frustrated when you expect everything to go perfectly. They make mistakes and do messy work because they are learning. Acceptance of average results is important. Don’t be critical about their mistakes. It’s not your parents’ anxiety that makes you want perfection.
Chant Mantras
Chanting positive affirmations or mantras is one of my ways to cope with mom anxiety. Affirmations can help you transform negative thoughts into positive ones. They can also be used to get rid of the negative bias that many people experience, especially those with anxiety and perfectionism.
These are my favorite mantras for mom with anxiety:
- This moment is all I have, the future will come when it comes.
- I cannot control what other people think or do so I focus on what I can do.
- My anxiety is not me. It’s something that I have and can overcome.
- Anxiety is a real thing. I am grateful for your concern and acknowledge it. Thank you for your concern. At this moment, peace and calm are my preference.
- The thing I’m worried about isn’t yet here, but I’ll face it when it happens. For now, I am choosing to live in the moment.
- It will all be accomplished, one at a time. Focusing on the task at hand is what I choose to do
It is important to remember that anxiety cannot be cured by simply replacing it with positive thoughts. Anxiety is something you must acknowledge and accept. Anxiety will only be increased if you try to fight it. Accepting your emotions is a sign that they are accepted and ready to go.
